| Obituary | Sep 23, 2016 | OBITUARY: Lebanon, NH – George Edward Laber, 73, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Care in Windsor, VT He was born July 5, 1943 in Hanover, NH a son of Loyal and Dixie (Woodard) Laber. George grew up in Norwich and graduated from Hanover High School before beginning his forty year career in retail grocery at Super Duper in Hanover. He then spent two years stationed in Germany while serving in the US Army from 1964-1966 and continued his service in the Army Reserves for a time after his honorable discharge from active duty. Upon returning to the Upper Valley George went back to work at P&C Grocery which was later purchased by Price Chopper and worked as store manager in Hanover, White River Jct., Randolph, Claremont and Windsor before retiring in 2005. He met Eileen Flanders in 1972 and they were later married. They have spent the last 44 wonderful years together in Lebanon. George was a fifty year member of the Lebanon B.P.O.Elks Lodge 2099 and a twenty five year member of Guyer-Carigan American Legion Post 22 in Lebanon where he served in the Honor Guard for many years. George was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his time spent with his buddies hunting and fishing. He was particularly fond of his two fishing trips to Alaska. He also enjoyed his Harley Davidson Road King. As George’s health has declined in the last several years, he and his family are grateful for the wonderful care they have received from Dr. Courtney Farrell and her staff and in the last week the care from Mt. Ascutney Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Lebanon; a daughter Lisa Melanson and her husband Paul of Portsmouth, NH a son Jeff Flanders and his wife Wendy of West Virginia; grandchildren Josh, Zach, Linda, Larry, Wade, Jessica and Calvin; great grandchildren Jaxson, Cole and Gracie; a brother in law Larry Dever and his wife Kathy of New Smyrna Beach, FL and several nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his father Loyal Laber; mother, Dixie Stickney and two brothers David and Wayne Laber.
