Obituary | Dec 30, 2012 | OBITUARY: NORWICH - Evelyn G. Malerba, 80, of 622 New London Tnpk. died Thursday at the Backus Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on March 20, 1932 in Richford, VT and was the daughter of the late Isadore and Alice (Farmer) Garrow. Evelyn came to Norwich in 1951 and worked at the Norwich State Hospital as a nursing aide. She was united in marriage on November 27, 1952 to Louis P. Malerba at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Norwich he predeceased her March 22, 2004. Together they owned and operated Malerba's Farm and Greenhouses until their retirement. Evelyn loved animals especially chickens which she raised for many years. Other hobbies included crossword puzzles, word games and she was also an avid UCONN Huskies Men's and Women's basketball fan. She and Lou traveled throughout the United States and were annual visitors to the Big E. in Springfield, MA.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Vincent Malerba and his wife Lisa (Abele) of Norwich. Four daughters and sons-inlaw, Mary and John Johnson of Griswold, Alice Malerba of Norwich, Margie and Larry LePage and Diane and Randy Eichner both of Preston. One sister, Marjorie Duhaime of Norwich. One brother, Leonard Garrow of FL. Seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Marion Revoet, Florence Cameron and Frances Gauvin, and four brothers, Gordon, Clifford, Harold and Frank.
There are no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held Friday January 4, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich meeting directly at the cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Ross Adult Day Care Center Norwich, CT or to the Humane Society Quaker Hill, Ct. Guillot Funeral Home 75 South B. St. Taftville is in charge of arrangements.
