Obituary | Mar 14, 2013 | OBITUARY: HYDE PARK - Madeline S. Touchette, 89, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2013. She was born Aug. 8, 1923, the daughter of Eugene and Hazel (Fuller) Shangraw, of Colchester. She was a 1941 graduate of Cambridge High School. She married Lute Touchette Jr., and they celebrated 44 years of marriage before his passing. In 1952, Lute and Madeline moved to Hyde Park, where they owned and operated a filling station known as Lute's Mobil Station for several years and later owned Lute's Sales & Service. Madeline was the bookkeeper for many years for both her husband and son John. Madeline's love was her family, first and foremost. She also had a love for the land and nature. Her flower gardens over the years expressed that love and joy. However, she had a love that she yearned for each May which was moving into her camp at Lake Eden, which she named the "The 4 J's." She loved the lake and found so much peace and comfort at Lake Eden. She had spent 50 summers at Lake Eden as of last summer. Over the years, she served on the village of Hyde Park trustees, Lanpher Memorial Library trustees, Hyde Park PTA and the Lake Eden Association. Madeline is survived by her children, Judith (Russell) Lanphear, of Hyde Park, Jane (Wayne) Tallman, of Johnson, John Touchette, of Eden, and James (Ila) Touchette, of East Montpelier; grandchildren, Kimberly Lanphear, Kirk (Katrina) Lanphear, Kara (Andy) Gates, Trista (Shawn) Wells, Jody Tallman (Jerry Haskins), Scott Touchette, Lori Touchette, Heather (Doug) Judd and Katina Johnson; great-grandchildren, Cody, Kayla and Jenna Wells, Chelsea, Carrie, Lucas and Keith Lanphear, Ryan and RJ Gates, Kaylea Wells (Tyler Locke) and Kelsey Wells, Benjamin Allen (Danielle Audet), Sara Touchette, Emma Touchette and Grace Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Brody Wells, Jayden Allen and Bentley Locke. Madeline also leaves three sisters, Freda Sheldon, of Unionville, Conn., Joyce Morin, of St. Albans, and Martha Labbee, of West Palm Beach, Fla; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard Carl; a grandson, Keith Richard; as well as four brothers, Harrison, Earl, Clarence and Richard Shangraw. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church in Hyde Park with interment to follow in Jedediah Hyde Cemetery.
