Mr. Rountree was born in Gates County. He had retired from the State of North Carolina and was a member of Eure Christian Church, Eure.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian King Rountree ; two daughters, Nancy R. Bazemore of Cofield and Lillie Mae Wiley of Elizabeth City; a son, O.C. Rountree Jr. of Chesapeake; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Harrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
