Born in Lowell, he was a son of the later Alfred and Ernestine (Champagne) Gagnon.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in Europe and he was a member of Chapter 25, Disabled American Veterans. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. Prior to his illness, he had been employed as a foreman with the Pellon Corp. for over 20 years.

Surviving him besides his wife are five daughters, Mrs. Paul (Suzanne) Kenney and Mrs. John (Patricia) Borba of Lowell; Mrs. Linda Goyette of Westford; Mrs. Armand (Betty Ann) Jussaume of Dracut and Mrs. Peter (Sandra) Koutsikos of Lowell; a sister, Mrs. Ira (Rita) Hammond of South Dakota; three brothers, Gerard Gagnon and Omer Gagnon of Lowell and Henry Gagnon of North Chelmsford; also 13 grandchildren.
