| Obituary | Sep 8, 2011 | OBITUARY: Michael Gregory Garofano, 24, of Rutland, died with his father Aug. 28, 2011, in Rutland, as a tragic result of Hurricane Irene. He was born in Rutland, Oct. 5, 1986, the son of Michael J. and Celestine (Sitek) Garofano. He was a 2005 graduate of Rutland High School, attended Community College of Vermont for one year and graduated in 2008 from Vermont Technical College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Landscape Development & Ornamental Horticulture. Mr. Garofano was employed at Proctor-Pittsford Country Club since 2002 and self-employed at M.G. Lawn & Landscape. He enjoyed playing golf, maple sugaring and country music. Survivors include his mother, a brother, Thomas Garofano, paternal grandparents, Patrick and Jacqueline Garofano, and maternal grandmother, Valeria Sitek, all of Rutland, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Garofano, in 2010, and his maternal grandfather, Anthony Sitek, in 1996. The funeral service for Michael and his father was held Sept. 9, 2011, at St. Peter Church. To honor Michael G. and his father, Michael J., a memorial fund will purchase a plaque or similar item to be placed at City Reservoir. Published in the Rutland Herald on September 8, 2011.2 |
