He was born Jan. 1, 1947, in Burlington, the son of Andrew and Natalie Tie.

He served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a boiler man and as a firefighter onboard ship.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model building, puzzles and working on small engines.

Survivors include a daughter, Heidi Robinson; six sons, Shane, Kyle, Trevor, Shawn, Mark and Matthew Tie; five grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Wright and Linda Allen; his fiancée, Joanne Becker; several cousins, nephews and nieces; and the mother to his children, Christy Stone.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Debra; by a son, Clayton Jr; and by his parents and a brother, Alan.
