| Obituary | Aug 15, 1996 | OBITUARY: Mabel L. (Akers) Schoenmakers, 85, a longtime East Wenatchee resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1996, at Cashmere Convalescent Center following an extended illness. She was born on Oct. 28, 1910, to Jackson H. and Frances (Halley) Felty at Greenup, Ky. At a young age she moved to Raceland, Ky., where she received her education. At age 12, she worked at the YMCA. On April 30, 1927, she married James B. Akers at Greenup, Ky., where they made their first home. In 1930, they moved to East Wenatchee where she was a homemaker and worked at various packing sheds in the Wenatchee Valley. On July 24, 1976, she married Henry William "Hank" Schoenmakers at Wenatchee, and they made their home in East Wenatchee. Mabel spent many years attending the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include five sons, Jack Akers, Wenatchee, Richard Akers, Yakima, Leslie Akers, Auburn, Earl Akers, Puyallup, and Chuck Akers, East Wenatchee; one daughter, Patricia Henson, Cashmere; three sisters, Lucy Soward, Ohio, and Belva Purcell and Evelyn Tackett, both of Wenatchee; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hank, in 1991, two brothers and two sisters. Publisher unknown.2 |
