Obituary | May 30, 2010 | OBITUARY: ENOSBURGH – Lewis H. “Louie” Mason, age 60, husband of Mary (Carpenter) Mason, passed away unexpectedly while haying with Jim on Saturday, May 29, 2010. He was born in Albany, VT to the late Abner & Mae (Larocque) Mason on September 11, 1949. He married Mary (Carpenter) Mason on November 15, 1968. Louie “Henry” was a life-long farmer and in 1982 he and Mary purchased their farm on the Boston Post road. In 1989 he was awarded outstanding young farmer of the year by the Vermont JC’s, and he represented Vermont at their convention in Alabama. After his retirement from dairy farming, Louie went to work for IBM, but he could always be found back on the farm when help was needed. His job may have changed, but his passion for farming remained. Louie was known to his family and friends as a handyman. When anyone needed repairs done they knew who to call, because they knew Louie could do the job. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary (Carpenter) Mason. His children, Judy Pond and her husband Andy of Richford, Karen Westcom and her husband Jeff of Enosburg, and Dawn Reed and her husband Shane of Enosburg. His grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia & Mason Pond, Johnathon Mason, Rebecca & Cassie Westcom, and Faith & Alexis Reed; his sisters, Carolyn Foster of Williamstown, Mary Chalifoux of Berkshire, and Doreen Billado of Newport; his mother-in-law, Betty “Ma Betty” Carpenter of Enosburg; his brother-in-law, Jim Carpenter and his wife Suz-anne of Enosburg; his sisters-in-law, Dianne Tibbits and her husband Arthur of Enosburg, Cindy Playful and her husband Phil of Fairfield, and Carole-Anne Carpenter and her friend Oliver Hurtubise of Richford; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Louie was predeceased by his father-in-law, John “Pa John” Carpenter; and his sister, Hazel Mason. Louie’s family would like to give a special thanks to Levi, Jim “Uncle Joe”, and Suz-anne “Aunt Suzy” for doing all they could do. We love you all. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the West Enosburgh Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Bly officiating. Interment will follow in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
