ObituaryJan 9, 2009  OBITUARY: VIRGINIA BEACH - Maude Rountrey Garner, 92, passed away Jan. 7, 2009. She was the daughter of the late James and Maude Eley and was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Rountrey; second husband, Capt. George I. Garner, U.S. Coast Guard, retired; two sisters, Adele Eley Sorrell and Frances E. Williams; and a brother, James A. Eley Jr.
Survivors include one brother, Ernest L. Eley of Hilton Head, S.C; two stepsons, George Duane Garner of Richmond, Va., and Allan Jay Garner of Bethesda, Md; two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Galilee Episcopal Church, the Retired Officers Wives Club and the Cavalier Garden Club. She retired from Hofheimers Inc. after 38 years.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A chapel service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home by The Very Rev. Kate Bobbitt. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
