Obituary | Nov 14, 2012 | OBITUARY: Ralph J. Tinker, 83, of Newport died on November 13, 2012, in Newport. He was born on September 30, 1929, in Newport Center, a son of Floyd and Doris (Bowman) Tinker. On February 26, 1955, he married Nancy Grow, who predeceased him on July 16, 2004. Mr. Tinker was a veteran of the Korean War where he served on the front line. For many years, he was a dairy farmer in Newport Center where he worked for Merton Thayer and Marty Before. His hobbies included going camping with his children and grandchildren and working on his puzzle books. He held membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #798. He is survived by his children: Debra Young and her husband, Leland, of Albany, Sandra Benware and her husband, Larry, of Derby, Bernie Tinker and his wife, Betty, of Derby, Brian Tinker of Kentucky, Roger Tinker of Holland, Michael Tinker of Derby Line, and Diane McAllister and her husband, Scott, of Derby; by his grandchildren: Karen, Billy, Milo, Liza, Jaime, Jonathan, Eric, Meghan, Benjamin, Andrew, Aaron, Amanda, Kyle, Heather, Daniele, Marie, and Amy; by 32 great-grandchildren; by his brother Bruce Tinker of Barton; by his sister-in-law Betty Limlaw of Derby; by his nieces and nephews; and by very dear friends from Maine: Betty and Garry Spencer, Blanche Ranger, and Lori and Marty Before. He was predeceased by his brother Dale Tinker and by his granddaughter Tanya Lynn Tinker. Funeral services were held at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport on November 15 with the Reverend Frank Beaty officiating. Interment followed in the Newport Center Cemetery with full military honors.
