ObituaryJun 15, 2017  OBITUARY: Robert Edward Brown, 86, of Rutland Town, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017, with his family by his side at The Pines at Rutland, where he received excellent care.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1931, in Rutland, the son of Clifton and Kathleen (Hebert) Brown.

Mr. Brown grew up in Wallingford, graduating from the Wallingford High School class of 1950. During his senior year, he was the captain of the Wallingford High School basketball team that won the Vermont State Championship Class C in 1950.

He served in the Rutland Army Reserves, being called up for service in Germany during the Korean War. He also served in the Vermont National Guard for many years.

On Dec. 3, 1949, he married Jane White in Wallingford. Together, they raised nine children.

Mr. Brown was employed by Tambrands for 41 years prior to his retirement in 1993.

He was an avid hunter, a great cook and enjoyed many bus trips to Atlantic City.

Mr. Brown was a diehard Red Sox and Celtics fan. He also enjoyed the many summers at Tinmouth Pond and was well-known for his fireworks displays on the 4th of July.

Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Rutland Town; daughters Diane Ross, of Castleton, Julie (Larry) Sharon, of Wallingford, and Mary Brown, of Williston; sons Tom, of Florence, Rand (Cindy), of Rutland, Dale (Monica), of Rutland, Timothy (Sandi), of Londonderry, NH, Randall Brown; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Robert Jr., in 2011; a son-in-law, Nick Ross, in 2015; also five siblings.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Christ the King Church. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Wallingford.

Arrangements are by the Aldous Funeral Home.
