William is survived by his son William Stark III, daughter Anne (Stark) Newman, son-in-law Dean Newman, and grandson Justin Krey Newman of Cleveland, TN; his cousin Gloria (Ludwig) Muir of Yarmouthport, MA; his son Alden Stark, daughter-in-law Jennifer (Qualey) Stark, and grandchildren Rachel, Hannah, David and Nathan Stark of Wilmington, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are most respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services for William in the Pinewood Lutheran Church, 24 Wilmington Rd., Burlington on Wednesday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. Calling hours at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St. (corner of Park St. and Rte. 28) NORTH READING at Reading line, on Tuesday 4 thru 8 p.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Born on April 8, 1920, in Boston, he prepared for college at Newton (MA) High School and became a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity at Bowdoin College, which he attended from 1939 to 1941. During World war II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of lieutenant. After the war, he entered Tufts University, from which he received a bachelor of science in engineering degree in 1949. For some years he was an engineer with Avco-Everett Research Laboratory in Everett, MA, and from 1968 to 1971 was an administrator with Perkin-Elmer Corporation in Danbury, CT. In 1972, he became an administrator with Horizons Research in Beachwood, Ohio. He later returned to Massachusetts, where he was president of Alden Optical Personnel in Wilmington until his retirement. He was married in 1942 to Barbara Tower, who died in 1965; he married again in 1967 to Ruth Krey, who died in 2005. Surviving are two sons, William I. Stark III and Alden Stark, both of Wilmington MA; a daughter, Anne S. Newman of Cleveland, TN; and five grandchildren. Information provided from the Bowdoin Magazine, Fall 2006.2 |
