Obituary | Jan 12, 2003 | OBITUARY: BRATTLEBORO - Stanley Celan Place, 79, of Putney died Jan. 11, 2003, at Eden Park Nursing Home. He had been a resident at the nursing home since December. He was born in Richmond on May 17, 1923, the son of Rollin and Ida (Hill) Place. He was raised and educated in Richmond. He served win the U.S. Army with the 516th Field Artillery Battalion in World War II. He saw action during the Rhineland and Central Europe campaign. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater campaign ribbon, and the good conduct and victory medals. He was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal in March 1946. He married Lynda W. Moscaritolo. A resident of Putney for the past 16 years, he previously lived in East Hartford, Conn. He worked in the engineering department at Hartford (Conn.) Hospital for 19 years, retiring in 1985. He had previously owned and operated his own service station in East Hartford, Conn., and was a former employee at Pratt & Whitney in Hartford. Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles S. Place of Windsor Locks, Conn; a daughter, Sharon Marziale, also of Windsor Locks; two stepsons, James Hinkle of Denver, Colo., and Eric Hinkle of Columbus, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Lynda L. Sillner of Keene, N.H., and Laura L. Fernandez of Amherst, Mass; five grandchildren; a great - grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Wilfred Place; a sister, Isabelle Rogers; and a grandson. A graveside committal service with full honors will be conducted in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Putney at a later date. There are no calling hours.
