Obituary | Jan 15, 1997 | OBITUARY: CORNISH -- Mattie O. Kenyon, 95, formerly of Parsonage Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 14, 1997) at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport after a long illness. She had resided in Cornish for most of her life. Mrs. Kenyon was a waitress during World War II, when she lived with her husband in Chicago, Ill. She was a member of the Sew N' Sew Club and the South Cornish Home Dem Club. Mrs. Kenyon was a 60-year member of the Cornish Grange. Mr. Kenyon loved her many flower beds and house plants and doing housework. She was born in Cornish on Sept. 20, 1901, the daughter of Arthur and Lula (Bixby) Walker. Mrs. Kenyon attended schools in Cornish and was a graduate of Windsor High School. On June 25, 1921, she married Carroll E. Kenyon. He died April 10, 1968. Survivors include one son, Arthur G. Kenyon of Cornish; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Beverly) Rockwood of Chelsea and Mrs. Kurt (Kathleen) Train of Plaistow, N.H; 14 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 25 stepgreat-grandchildren; 18 step greatgrandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by one son, Randall C. Kenyon on Jan. 4, 1991; two sisters; and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Stringer Funeral Home at 146 Broad St. in Claremont with the Rev. Mary Elizabeth Scales, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Claremont, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Comings Cemetery in Cornish. Visiting hours will be for one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in her name to: Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, N.H. 03301; or the Kenyon Art Fund, in care of the First Congregational Church, Pine and Pleasant streets, Claremont, N.H. 03743.
