| Obituary | Aug 4, 2005 | OBITUARY: FARMINGTON – Sylvia Tobey Hoisington, 80, shown here in 1942, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, at her home, with her family by her side. She was born Sept. 28, 1924, in East Orange, N.J., the daughter of Dr. James A. and Lena (King) Tobey. She was educated in the schools of New York and Virginia, and received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wheaton Collage in Norton, Mass., in 1946. She moved to Farmington in 1961 and was primarily a homemaker and community volunteer. Among the activities she supported with her time were Cub Scouts, Titcomb Ski Slope, Mallett School Volunteers, American Legion Auxiliary, Old South Friends, making mittens for children, Garden Club and the Thrift Shop. Her favorite activities were playing golf, tennis, swimming, cribbage and knitting. She will be remembered for her unselfish gifts to others, and her love for her family. She is survived by four sons, David E. Hoisington and wife, Linda, of South Paris, Steven B. and wife, Melinda, of Poland, Richard T. of Jay, and J. Scott and wife, Melissa, of Kingfield; brother and sister-in-law, William and Marty Tobey of Shelbourne, Vt; 10 grandchildren, Jill, Jeff, Sara, Amy, Matt, Kara, Krista, Ben, Molly and Julia; four nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Bernice Hoisington of Farmington.
