Obituary | Jul 28, 2010 | OBITUARY: NORTHFIELD FALLS - Harvey J. Amell, 68, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Northfield on Sept. 17, 1941, the son of William and Helen (Swann) Amell. He attended Northfield schools. He was a United States Army veteran, having served as a medic. He was honorably discharged in 1964. He married Margaret Partlow in Northfield on April 25, 1964. He had worked many years for Northfield Fuels and Gillespie Fuels, both located in Northfield. He worked for Cetrangolo Finishing Works and later for Granite Industries of Vermont, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Sorrel Maynard American Legion Post 63 of Northfield. He loved the Red Sox and NASCAR racing, and also enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Maggie, of Northfield Falls; three children, Teresa Dickson of Fairfax, Karen Davis of Northfield, Joan Amell of Northfield Falls; five siblings, Lewis Amell, Arthur Amell, Michael Amell, Evelyn Premont all of Northfield, Phyllis Beauchemin of Brookfield; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by four siblings, Anita Amell, Sonny Amell, Mary Martin and Beverly Jarvis. In keeping with his wishes, there are no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Northfield. Full military honors will be accorded at the church, with burial in the Vermont Veteran's Cemetery in Randolph at a later date.
