Obituary | May 10, 2011 | OBITUARY: NORTHFIELD - Arthur E. Amell, 73, lifelong resident of Northfield, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. He was born in Northfield on Jan. 9, 1938, the son of William and Helen (Swann) Amell. He attended Northfield schools. He enlisted in the United States Army on Feb. 4, 1955, and was honorably discharged from service Nov. 20, 1958. He had been married to Bernadette Bailey. On Aug. 11, 1979, he married Marion Nadeau in Roxbury. She predeceased him Oct. 20, 2010. Arthur had worked over 25 years for Cetrangolo Finishing Works in Northfield, as well as at many other area granite sheds. The past 20 years he had been delivering The Times Argus newspaper. He was a member of the Barre Elks Club. He enjoyed playing golf, picking lost golf balls, softball, bowling and giving his grandchildren rides on his riding lawn tractor. Survivors include five children: William Amell, of Northfield, Deborah Brannon, of Seminole, Fla., Patricia Traina, of Odessa, Fla., Phil Amell, of Northfield and Jennifer Buck, of Northfield; four siblings: Lewis "Tinker" Amell, of Northfield, Michael Amell, of Northfield, Evelyn Premont, of Northfield and Phyllis Beauchemin, of Brookfield; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by five siblings: Anita Amell, Mary Martin, Beverly Jarvis, Sonny "William" Amell and Harvey Amell. Calling hours will be conducted Tuesday, May 10, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Ave., in Northfield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, at 9 a.m., at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center, followed by burial with full military honors being accorded.
