Obituary | Nov 25, 2008 | OBITUARY: ST. ALBANS - Mr. Fred O. Putnam, age 91, died Friday evening, Nov. 21, 2008, in the Northwestern Medical Center, with his loving wife and daughter at his bedside. Fred was born in Montgomery, March 22, 1917, son of the late Fred and Minnie (Cantwell) Putnam. Most of his working life, he was a machine operator at the H. P. Hood Creamery, at the processing plant in St. Albans. Fred spent many hours repairing washing machines, in the basement of his own home, a hobby he always enjoyed. He and his wife traveled extensively, mostly to several of the United States and Vancouver. They also appreciated Taylor Park and spent many summer evenings sitting in the park. Fred also enjoyed helping his wife with picture puzzles. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. July 3, 1944, Fred married Florence Kelley. Besides his wife of over 64 years, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and John Leach, of Enosburg Center; three grandchildren, Brian Bonk, Landon Bonk and Misty Leach; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Minnie; and his sister, Mattie Lacross. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Pastor Herman Benjamin of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in the Putnam family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
