ObituaryApr 19, 2011  OBITUARY: BARRE TOWN - Joseph A. Tousignant, 86, of Cutler Corner Road, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born in Graniteville on Aug. 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Emile and Aldea (Hebert) Tousignant. Joseph attended Holy Ghost Convent in Graniteville. After his schooling he was employed at Rock of Ages Corp. for 26 years.

On Aug. 2, 1947, he married Denise Mercier in Ste. Anne de Belleview, Quebec.

After their marriage the couple made their home in Graniteville until 1951, when they moved to East Calais, where they owned and operated a farm for five years. They then moved to Websterville for a few years before moving to George Street in Barre. Their last residence was in Barre Town.

In his later years he was employed by Barre City in the water department until his retirement in 1987. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, refinishing furniture, bowling and spending precious time with his family.

His memberships include St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre and the Canadian Club.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years of marriage, Denise Tousignant, of Barre Town; one son, Robert "Bob" Tousignant and his wife, Jane, of Randolph; two daughters, Diane Hanna, of Barre Town, and Marlene Tousignant, of Georgia; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Gilberte Betty Woodruff, of Barre Town, and Theresa Usle, of Barre, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grandson, Corey Pecor; five sisters, Florence Graves, Marie Lefebvre, Marie Rose Loverin, Jeannette Finnie and Cecile Graves; and three brothers, Roland, Maurice and Paul Tousignant.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre on Monday, April 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

A later burial will be in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Websterville.

Arrangements are in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St. in Barre.
