Obituary | Oct 14, 1988 | OBITUARY: RICHARD B. KENT, was a Tec4 (SGT) in the U.S. Army, who photographed the liberation of the Dachau and the Bergen-Belson concentration camps in Germany at the end of World War II, has died at his home in Albuquerque, NM. He was 66. As an Army Signal Corps newsreel photographer, Kent also took some of the first photos of the Normandy invasion on D-Day and of the liberation of Paris. Hundreds of the official Holocaust pictures he took in the camps at the end of the war were recorded on film by the Army. His death Wednesday came after a long illness. “Photography was his life, but he always said that photography was his hobby, “ said Edie his wife of 39 years. Among his photographs of famous people and events were those of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin at the Potsdam Conference. Kent also photographed the takeoff of the first balloon flight the Atlantic Ocean in 1978 and the first balloon flight across North America in 1990.
