Obituary | Jun 15, 2005 | OBITUARY: HOBBSVILLE James Holland "Jimmy" Rountree Sr., 48, of the 600 block of Carters Road, died June 14, 2005, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. Mr. Rountree was born in Hertford County and was the son of the late Sornie Ralph Jr. and Maggie West Rountree. A self-employed tree service operator, he was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church and its Adult Choir. Elected to the Gates County Board of Education in 1998, he was presently serving as its chairman. Jimmy loved children and worked tirelessly to improve their education through the school system. An active member of the PTA, he had, for many years, treated the kindergarten and elementary levels to watermelon parties. Jimmy enjoyed hunting and fishing, farming, cutting wood and all outdoor activities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant twin sons; a brother, Andy Rountree; and his father-in-law, Britten Jordan. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Lynne Jordan Rountree; his daughter, Margaret Diane Rountree; sons, James H. Rountree Jr. and Joseph Britten Rountree, all of the home; a sister, Nancy R. "Becky" Bunch of Murfreesboro; and brothers, S.R. Rountree III of Fuquay-Varina and William Rountree of Gatesville. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Asbill. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery, Folly Road, Sunbury. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, and all other times at the home of his mother-in-law, Lois Jordan, 196 Savage Road, Corapeake. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Gatesville Baptist Church or the Gates County Rescue Squad.
