Obituary | Oct 3, 2008 | OBITUARY: SUNBURY - Nellie Taylor Lassiter, 87, of Water Swamp Road, died Oct. 2, 2008, in Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Suffolk. Mrs. Lassiter was born in Gates County and was the daughter of the late Edgar and Essie Lassiter Taylor. A homemaker, she was a member of Damascus Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Waymore R. Lassiter; a son-in-law, Bob Holland; and brothers, Elton, Linwood, Edgar Ray, Stanley and George. Surviving are two daughters, Judy L. Holland of Suffolk and Barbara L. Jones and husband Danny of Sunbury; a sister, Margaret Johnston of Sunbury; two brothers, Robert Taylor of Hertford, N.C., and Lloyd Taylor of Portsmouth; three granddaughters, Annette Modlin and husband Keith and Lisa Johnson and husband Terry, all of Sunbury and Sherry Eason of Suffolk; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kinsey Modlin and Adam and Aaron Johnson. A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, by the Rev. Forrest Guthrie. Private burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery, Sunbury. Friends may join the family in the funeral home following the service and all other times at the home of her granddaughter, Lisa, 649 Acorn Hill Road, Sunbury.
