Obituary | Jul 27, 1998 | OBITUARY: HILLSBOROUGH -- Mr. Zephaniah (Zep) Reid Roberts, 88, died Saturday, July 25, 1998. Mr. Roberts was born in Orange County to William Rainey Roberts and Eva Reid Roberts on February 11, 1910. He was the oldest of five children. Mr. Roberts lived and worked in Hillsborough for 70 years. He worked in Coleman Laws Hardware for 30 years. He had been a member of Hillsborough Presbyterian Church for 43 years. He was a veteran of World War II and an active member of Schley American Legion.
Mr. Roberts is survived by Margaret Phelps Roberts, his wife of 63 years. He is also survived by a son, Kenneth Bryan Roberts and wife, Catherine, Charlotte; a daughter, Susan Roberts Hendricks and husband, Joe, Hillsborough; a sister, Louise Roberts Clayton, Hillsborough; five grandchildren, Kelly Roberts Brown, Charlotte, Blair Walker Roberts, Columbia, S.C., Donna Roberts McMasters, Graham, Billy Roberts, Efland, and Matthew Jordan Hendricks, Hillsborough; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Roberts was predeceased by a son, Reid Phelps Roberts.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Debbie Taylor; burial in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Walker's Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Monday, July 27, and also at the home of Joe and Susan Hendricks, 2124 Hwy.86 N. Pallbearers will be Billy Roberts, Matthew Hendricks, Danny McMasters, Paul Brown, Mike Latta, and Bill Latta. Contributions may be made to Hillsborough Presbyterian Church.
