| Obituary | Dec 10, 2012 | OBITUARY: Ruth Ellen Heaphy, 78, of West Haven, loving wife of the late John F. Heaphy, Jr., beloved mother and grandmother, died Sunday, December 9, 2012, at the Orange Health Care Center. Ruth was born in New Haven February 9, 1934, a daughter of the late Wesley G. and Edna V. Bertrand Parker. She had earned her degree in Psychology and had been employed for many years with the Psychiatric Department at the Veterans Medical Center in West Haven. Ruth was a member of the West Haven Elks and the Columbian Ladies of the Knights of Columbus. She gave years of service to the West Haven Library and as a long-time columnist wrote the "Reflections" column for the West Haven Voice. She is survived by her children, Michael Heaphy and his wife Pam, Colleen Gagnon-Fagan and her husband Thomas, John F. Heaphy, III and his wife Michelle, and Betsy Heaphy Kershner and her husband Jeff, all of West Haven; a brother William Parker of Arizona; a sister Janice Donahue of East Haven; seven cherished grandchildren, Christina and Jason Gagnon, Andrea and John Heaphy, IV, Sarah Keith-Heaphy , and Cameran and Carson Kershner; a sister-in-law, Maureen Cumberledge and her husband Jim of PA; a brother-in-law, Joe Pastore of West Haven, as well as several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by a son, Thomas Patrick Heaphy, and a sister-in-law, Carol Pastore. Ruth's funeral will be held 10:00 Thursday morning at the First Congregational Church, 1 Church Street, West Haven. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven, Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00.
