Found his pension file at the Nat'l Archives. He applied in 1903 and was living in Brentwood, Contra Costa County, California. I guess after 29 NH winters, California looked pretty good to him. He had contracted malaria and had partial deafness in both ears. He was not married when he applied for the pension.
