Obituary | May 26, 2017 | OBITUARY: Irene Helen Long passed away on May 23, 2017, at the MeadowBrook of Granby Nursing Home in Granby, CT after a series of illnesses. Born in West Brattleboro, VT, in 1922, she was the third child of Ray Osborne Sprague and Amy Bird Newcomb. Irene married Wesley John Long in 1941 and settled on Cornwall Street in Hartford, CT where they raised their four children: Robert W. of Port Charlotte, FL; Nancy I. Kniss, of Fort Wayne, IN; David C. (deceased); and Karen A. Dean of Cambria, CA. After Wesley's passing in 1983, Irene moved to East Granby, CT, where she continued to provide life care for David until his passing in 2001. She is preceded in death by her sister, Doris Amy Sprague, and brother, Donald Raye Sprague, both of Brattleboro, VT. Irene is survived by her children: Robert, Nancy, and Karen, seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. She worked as a retail clerk at for fourteen years at Walgreens Drug Store until her retirement at 85 years of age. She was an active member of the The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. SERVICES: Cremation services were provided by Carmon Community Funeral Homes. Interment will be at the Mather's Cemetery, West Brattleboro, VT., at a date to be determined by the family.
