| Obituary | Dec 1, 2008 | OBITUARY: WESTMORELAND, N.H. Althea Mary Farnum, 88, a lifelong resident of Putney, died peacefully on Friday night, Nov. 28, 2008, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, where she had been a resident since February 2004. Born in Putney on May 9, 1920, the daughter of Oril and Minnie Lucia Clark, she was raised and educated in Putney and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School. She also attended Montpelier Seminary. Mrs. Farnum had been employed as a cook at New England Kurn Hattin Homes for 24 years and had also worked at the former Windham College in Putney. Previously, she had been employed at the Brattleboro Retreat and at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates in Brattleboro. She was a devoted companion and later caregiver to her mother. While in her early 50s, she learned how to drive and received her driver’s license, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. Mrs. Farnum had been a member of the United Church of Putney and more recently West Brattleboro Baptist Church. She was a member of the former Grange in Putney. Of her leisure time activities, she enjoyed embroidery, needlepoint. She had knitted for the Brattleboro Christmas Stocking Program for many years, and also loved to cook. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed time shared with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was married to Cortez Farnum who predeceased her in 1947. She leaves two sons, David Farnum of Brattleboro and Henry Farnum of Putney, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Beverly Clark, and by a great-grandson, Joshua Farnum. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside Committal services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Pastor Steve McClelland officiating.
