Obituary | Dec 31, 1910 | OBITUARY: Mrs. Sarah F. Hurd, who was committed to the asylum in Jacksonville a week ago by the county court of this county, died late Thursday at the asylum. The cause of death of Mrs Hurd was heart failure. She was sitting near a nurse on a bench when she suddenly fell forward. A physician was immediately summoned but Mrs. Hurd did not live long. Sarah F. Alden was born in Claremont, N.H. June 4, 1836 and she was a direct descendent of John Alden, one of the famous pioneers who came over on the Mayflower. In 1856 she was married to Charles Hurd in Claremont, N.H. Mrs. Hurd was the mother of four children, three of whom survive — John, Charles, of Wilson township, and Mrs. Flora Johnson of the same township. Mrs. Hurd is also survived by six grandchildren. The body arrived yesterday at 9 o'clock, accompanied by her two sons, John and Charles. The remains were taken to Wapella, where they were later removed to the home of her son, John, The funeral services will be held there this afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. H.
