Obituary | Jun 7, 2013 | OBITUARY: Alling, Ethan H., 91, of Bristol and widower of Mary (Botto) Alling, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Sheriden Woods. He was born October 16, 1921 in Burlington and was a son of the late Charles and Katherine (Kaizer) Alling. He was employed as a truck driver for the Public Works Department of the City of Bristol for 30 years before retiring. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He was an avid Red Sox and NY Giants fan. His nicknames were “RedSox” & “Iggy”. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony Church. His family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sheriden Woods for the compassion and care that he received during the eleven years that he resided there. Also, special thanks to Rev. BJ Shaffer-Bengston, M.Div., and Vitas Hospice Care for the care he received during his last days. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nancy Alling of Bristol, and Richard and Flora Alling of Southington, five grandchildren, Andrew and his wife, Jennifer Alling, Alexis and her husband, Lt. Erich Hill, US Navy, Heather Alling, Jenny Crandall and Marisa Brooks, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Peter James Alling, a daughter, Barbara Jean Crandall-Deraleau, a brother, Charles Alling and a sister, Laura Johnson. His funeral was held Friday, June 7, 2013 at 10AM in St. Anthony Church, Bristol. Burial followed with Military Honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
