Obituary | Aug 21, 1983 | OBITUARY: Alfred was one of four children in his family with three older sisters. His parents had migrated from New Hampshire to Orange County, California where his parents established a farm they owned free in 1900. After 1900 Alfred had a rough period. His father died in 1904, his mother in 1905. In 1910 he is found in the IOOF Orphanage in Gilroy, California, along with his two next oldest sisters. How he got from southern to northern California is unknown. Alfred served in the US Army during WWI, unit undetermined. He enlisted 7 November 1917 and was discharged 20 December 1918. In 1917 he was working as a sheet metal worker in Gilroy when he registered for the draft. This was an occupation he followed for the rest of his life, initially in Gilroy, eventually becoming the foreman of a well casing operation operating out of Watsonville. Married Amelia M.
