Obituary | Jun 7, 1916 | OBITUARY: Thomas Landon died at his home in Orleans May 25th, 1916, after an illness of many months, during which he gradually failed until he met the end in peace. He was the son of Franklin and Polly Landon, was born in Irasburg, June 30, 1850, where he lived until 1894, when he moved to this village, then called Barton Landing, which has since been his home. Dec. 22, 1974, he was united in marriage with Jessie E. Dewey, who died April 28, 1888, aged 32 years. Jan. 1, 1891, he married Mary P. McKown, who survives him. He also leaves a son, Hugh L. Landon of Portland, Ore., and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Brennan of Irasburg. Mr. Landon joined Central Lodge, No. 62, F. & A. M., in early manhood, was a member of Keystone Chapter of Barton and Malta Commandery of Newport. He was a charter member of Valley Lodge, No. 106, F. & A. M., in the welfare of which he was deeply interested. Many are the Masons who will recall the earnest words of Masonic admonition which they received from Brother Landon. He was a member of Intervale Chapter No. 61, O. E. S. He was a charter member of Philemon Lodge No. 6, Knights of Pythias. When his failing health made impractical his continued attendance at their meetings, he asked for a demit. Instead, Philemon Lodge made him a life member in token of its appreciation of his worthiness and past helpfulness. He was long a member of the Thespian society which in its day was the dramatic attraction in Orleans County. Mr. Landon united with the Congregational church at Orleans in 1915. In passing on, his only care seemed to be a consideration for those left behind, a kind and loving husband and father, ever solicitous for the welfare of those he loved. As a neighbor he was thoughtful and obliging. We all miss the greeting of Brother Landon.
