Obituary | Oct 8, 2006 | OBITUARY: BREWSTER - Fred W. Parkhurst, 99, died Friday at Epoch Assisted Living of Brewster. He was the husband of the late Adelaide (Snow) Parkhurst. Born in Dunstable, Mr. Parkhurst was raised and educated in Chelmsford. In 1927, he enlisted with the U.S. National Guard, serving for three years. He worked for the Osterman Coal Co., and Daniel Gage Coal Co., both in Lowell. From 1950 to 1959, he owned and operated the Couple Square Diner in Lowell. Mr. Parkhurst moved to Brewster in 1959 to work as a finish carpenter and was a member of the Brewster Board of Trade, the William North Lodge of Lowell for more than 50 years, the Mt. Pleasant Country Club in Lowell, and the Captains Course in Brewster. Mr. Parkhurst leaves two sons, Fred W. Parkhurst of Gilford, N.H., and Richard E. Parkhurst of Harwich; three stepdaughters, Althea E. Alling of Brewster, Jane G. Wright of Arizona, and June Alexander of Harwich; and 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was also the stepfather of the late Arnold Garrow.
